ma ma'na taqwa?

تقوى؟
علي بن ابي طالب رضي الله عنه :
الخوف من الجليل والعمل با لتنزيل والرضا بالقليل والاستعداد ليوم الرحيل

Above is an answer from 'Ali bin Abi Talib when he was asked on ma ma'na taqwa (what does it mean by taqwa). All this while I've been introduced to various kind of answers on taqwa, but alhamdulillah, after 21 years of living, only then I reach the meaning of taqwa which is really practical. Better late than never aite? Allah loves me ;)

As Prophet Muhammad been once said: "I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its gate."
He is such an intelligent sahabah, which then Ali answered the meaning of taqwa with 4 points which are:

1. الخوف من الجليل
[Fearing Allah]
no matter wherever we are, our fear were only to Him, fear of His punishment which will prevent us to do anything forbidden by Him. For example: 'jangan menipu' as been stated earlier in here. More on khauf, have it here.

2. والعمل با لتنزيل
[practice according to the Qur'an and sunnah] <- dis is what i understand from the word 'tanzil'. Any other views? Erm, did not go beyond the teaching of Qur'an and sunnah. Qur'an gives us those spesific commandments such as prayers and pilgrimage, but with no details on how to make them into practice. This is where sunnah comes in, bringing the illumination of the Qur'an for us to understand those commandments from our religion. More on sunnah, here.

3. والرضا بالقليل
[being content with little]
Make our heart at ease receiving rizq from Him, no matter how little or how much He gives us, we must be grateful. bersyukur! Jangan asyik rasa tak cukup jek. If there's something left, make it as sadaqah, jangan kerek! Again as been discussed here.

Have you ever heard about the greatest sadaqah ever? Here;

Narrated from Abu Hurairah:

A man asked the Apostle of Allah (s.a.w):

"Apostle of Allah, which sadaqah (charity) is the best?"

He replied: "(The best sadaqah is) that you give something as sadaqah when you are healthy, greedy, expect survival and fear poverty, and not that you postpone it until nearly your death, and then you say: For so-and-so is such-and-such, and for so-and-so is such-and-such, while it was already for so-and-so." [sunan abu daud, book 11, no. 2859]

Translation:

Seorang lelaki datang kepada Rasulullah saw. lalu berkata:

"Wahai Rasulullah, sedekah manakah yang paling agung?"

Rasulullah saw. bersabda:

"Engkau bersedekah ketika engkau engkau sehat lagi kikir dan sangat memerlukan, engkau takut miskin dan sangat ingin menjadi kaya. Jangan engkau tunda-tunda sampai dekat kematian, baru engkau berpesan: 'Berikan kepada si fulan sekian dan untuk si fulan sekian.' Ingatlah, memang pemberian itu hak si fulan."

[juga terdapat dalam sahih muslim, no. 1713, tapi bahasa arab sahaja]

Understand-able, aite? Sadaqah, even if you give a candy to your friend, even by sharing your food with them. Don't limit yourself that sadaqah only made for surau and masjid, only comes with money and so forth. That is wrong. Ok?

Remember, sadaqah could also be attained with other deeds as well such as visiting the sick, attending a funeral, to assist someone when they are in need also with nice words by encouraging friends who were depressed or consoling the grief stricken people. Orait?

4.
والاستعداد ليوم الرحيل [preparing for the day of judgement]

Be prepared to have a new journey after a long walk in this world as every soul shall taste death (ali imran: 185) regardless of who you are. We are aware of this, but how many times do we remember death..?

Have you ever imagine yourself at the moment of death? What did come across your mind that time? Maybe this way will help us to remember death often even though the feeling of traveling from this world to the next cannot be described by words nor be imagine by sound mind. We only gain the knowledge from the divine revealation and inspiration, thus please have a thought in this for a few moments..

done?

My favourite song since long ago, farshit turab (dust is my bed). Enjoy :D [no worries, i also dun understand the arabic much, but it really zouq (heart touching) you know, and translation provided in this video]

eerm, guys..my apology again. I have a request. Can you memorize the arabic words above? Since you have read them. Hehe. Put them inside your heart, because what is differ among us is only our taqwa.

For instance taqwa means, follow Allah's commandments and avoid what He forbid. Crystal clear?

p/s: In remembrance of a close friend named Taqi (taqwa) as he really hopes people will call his name with correct makhraj to be as a do'a for him. ;) ameen

Reminded me of a conversation between Umar Al-Khattab and Ubay Bin Kaab:

Once, Umar asked Ubay what he
knows about Taqwa. Ubay replied by asking him, “Have you
walked through thorny path?”

Umar answered, “Yes, indeed”

Ubay then asked him, “What did you do?”

Umar replied, “I tucked up (my garment) and did my best (to
avoid thorns)”

Thereupon Ubay said, “That is Taqwa!”
